As a broad guideline, we speak four times faster than we can type, therefore a one hour tape containing a speaker dictating notes clearly may take 4 hours to transcribe, whereas a 1 hour tape containing many speakers, may take several hours longer to transcribe.
Points to remember when making a tape:-
- Speak clearly and slowly
- Record in a quiet environment with no background noise
- Where there are multiple speakers, ask in advance that only one person talks at any one time
- Spell out any technical words
